A seven-color sheet-fed Ovation flexo press from Göpfert, featuring QuadTech's Inspection System, becomes the first operational corrugated system to feature 100% inspection and in-line rejection.

A major German corrugated board converter is operating the world's first corrugated converting system that allows both 100 percent in-line inspection and rejection of defect sheets, after installing a Göpfert seven color ‘Ovation' flexo press featuring QuadTech's Inspection System.

The two metre-wide press, which runs at speeds of up to 10,000 sheets per hour, includes two stacking towers, one for good sheets, and the other for bad sheets, which are rejected without being destroyed. As a result, the system guarantees defect-free print runs. The press includes full direct-drive technology on all shafts, fully automatic shaft positioning and plate cleaning, and an ink management system.

The QuadTech Inspection System featured on the Ovation includes three cameras and is uniquely capable of inspecting the entire substrate width. Based on a closed-loop concept, its software enables true benchmarking by making comparisons with the original ‘Golden Template' image. The Inspection System is linked to QuadTech's Data Central reporting function. This gives operators and company staff a comprehensive suite of statistics and reports, relating to print defects. All analysis is reported and updated in real-time, as soon as production begins, so that finished produce is defect free.
