DuPont Packaging Graphics Hosts 8th International Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards Ceremony
DuPont Packaging Graphics held its 8th Grand Prix Cyrel® ceremony on June 3-5, 2010 at the Rey Juan Carlos Primero Hotel in Barcelona, Spain. The awards ceremony took place in conjunction with the Flexo Print Pack Congress, along with presentations by DuPont, Manum Management Group (Spain) P’PREFERENCE (France), Uni Packaging (France), BoFrost and Tetrapak (Italy).
“Once again the International Grand Prix Cyrel® represents a significant milestone for the packaging printing industry,” said Björn Meth, business director, DuPont Packaging Graphics EMEA. “The works awarded at the ceremony showed an impressive level of quality that is clearly overrunning previous award winners.”
Since 1982, the Grand Prix Cyrel® competition seeks to promote the growth of flexography within the printing packaging industry. It has developed into a key event for the whole flexo industry that demonstrates packaging technologies and techniques, and fosters strategic exchanges among packaging experts worldwide.
Award recipients were drawn from more than 750 submissions coming from the flexographic printed packaging industry of Africa, France, Greece, Italy, Middle East, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom. Outstanding register accuracy, highlights holding and excellent smoothness on vignettes have greatly contributed to the exceptional quality of the submissions.
The flexo printing packages submitted were evaluated on criteria such as design, substrate selection, quality and difficulty of reproduction and printing, and final printed package appearance and functionality. All submissions were divided by category: Flexible Packaging, Carrier Bags, Bags on Paper, Tag & Label, Corrugated Post-Print B Flute and Coarser, Corrugated Post-Print E Flute and Finer, Corrugated Pre-Print, Sacks, Folding Cartons, Best Conversion & Other Specialities.
Improvements were achieved in Tag and Labels with UV inks, in Flexible Packaging Narrow Web and Corrugated Board thanks to the expansion in using finer screen rulings that can be achieved with the latest technologies.
